For a hotel in this price range it was faultless. The staff very friendly, the rooms fresh and clean, if a little small, and the restaurant (particularly breakfast which could keep you going all day) excellent.

when we got there they had double booked us and for two double rooms and not one twin as we had asked for. They agreed to give us two single rooms instead (remember it was theirs or your mistake) for the same price, as no twin room was available. When we left they charged us another £86.00p for the privilege of having to be put out by someone elses mistake. They went back on their original agreement and lied when they said that they had not agreed that at the start. Bad hotel, not very trustworthy.

Overall very good potential, gardens were being landscaped and decorating mainly in reception area whilst staying for weekend, owners only just took over.Staff very friendly, good breakfast and bar ok, mainly filled with locals of the older generation.Our bedroom was clean and tidy, but our large double bed wa actually 2 beds pushed together and the mattress was very uncomfortable so much so i didnt sleep very well as well as my partner.

My experience of this hotel was that it could benefit from some serious upgrading. On entering the hotel it is immediately noticeable that it is a tired and run down hotel. My room had a large damp patch on the ceiling, presumably upstairs had had a flood, the shower head was completely filthy and full of black slime. The door to my room did not feel secure and had the most basic lock on it I have ever seen, it did not make me feel safe about leaving anything in the room when i went out, or indeed while I was asleep. The floors are very old and creeky and loose and I heard everyone going up and down the stairs. And as there was a large gap between the floor and the door i could hear everyone talking and everyone downstairs coming and going from the bar etc. I would not recommend this hotel and would not care to stay there again.

hotel in a lovely setting easy to get to the city by a good regular bus service,will certainly recommend it to our friends,great value for money hotel, should be more than a 2 star.

Although the room was really nicely decorated, and relaxing to stay in - we had problems with the bathroom. There was mould above the shower, and the shower itself seemed to have problems with the temperature control. Other than that, the place was wonderful, the service in the bar was quick and good, the staff were friendly.We were in Room 9

Reasonably well placed for the city centre - a 25 minute stroll to the castle; a ten minute £6 taxi ride back, and on a the bus route. Triple room was clean and tidy. Staff were pleasant. Breakfast was good, gain served by polite and pleasant staff. Hotel was undergoing `minor refurbishment`. Did not eat in the restaurant due to time constraints, but menu look varied and good VFM. Bar area looked nice although again did not have time to use. You get what you pay for and on that basis the hotel was reasoanble value for money and compares favourably with city centre hotels..

Car park a little tight for turning space.Would certaiinlry return again.

We enjoyed our stay but the upkeep of the room let the hotel down. There were damp marks on one of the walls near the bed. The big wardrobe mirror had a broken hinge and the glass had been broken or cracked and big strips of tape had been put over it. It was difficult to get access to the drawer directly below the mirrored door. More sealant was needed in the bottom of the shower cubicle - a pity as the shower worked very well. The power socket nearest the door was too loose - the plate needed tightening. The main door lock to Room 15 had a loose outer plate which we had to keep replacing. One more chair or stool would improve the room. The space behind the wardrobe was a dust trap and a spider`s paradise! More basic maintenance, please.

Overall I think you get what you pay for, but I do think that it could have been cleaner. The rooms were very small. The food at the hotel was lovely though.
