when i booked the hotel i requested a nice veiw because this was our 30th weding anaversary and a suprise for my wife when we got into the room the only view we had was of a tin shoot and an old court yard even the curtains were not hung properly one was higher than the other .this upset me from the start as i felt that i had let my wife down. i know that requests cannot always be granted but the person that read my request must be in a position to understand how important it was to me the client (you only have one pearl anaversary)and to act on it even if it was to contact me and inform me that thy could not comply with my request, my booking was made weeks in advance of travel and i was told by the booking agent that i could not have chose a better hotel for my needs. i did not make a complaint at the hotel i didnt want to upset my wife, but when i was asked to give my comments i thought i would .
The hotel restaurant and bar etc are lovely and the staff really helpful. I found the room basic and because we had rooms at the back, facing the bars it was very noisy (no air-con so the window had to be open. The rooms lacked tea/coffee making facilities and no dressing gowns. all in all fair value but i would try somewhere else next time.
I`ve never stayed in such a bland, characterless hotel room. The public areas of The Clarence are very nice and the staff are friendly and professional but the hotel rooms (or at least the one we stayed in) really let it down. Magnolia walls, brown acrylic carpet and brown curtains. Generally tired looking and totally lacking any luxury in its appearance. It was comfortable and clean but no design elements or special touches you`d expect from a hotel of this standard. No air-con and very noisy outside so had to close window and swelter!
The rooms were small with no air conditioning and no double glazing hence very stuffy and/or very noisy. The location is great. The public areas are good and the staff very capable.
best hotel ived stayed in i`ll be coming back,
Lovely clean hotel, relatively neat rooms and lovely service from staff. I was surprised that there were no tea/coffee facilities in the room and the blinds are not easy to operate (resulting in it coming off the rail!).
I found The Clarence to be a fab location over all. The staff were more than helpful and polite. The room was quiet and clean. Maybe not 4 star standard. One thing that was not great was the fact that the bath needed painting or replacing. Bit off putting initially. But would recommend this hotel for its location and the staff helpfulness. Would book again.
We know every member of hotel staff is supposed to make you feel welcome but in reality it tends to feel a little false - not at The Clarence. Everyone we came accross - especially Jacob on the weekend night shift - was friendly, welcoming and warm. The room was ok - the breakfast was nice but you can get that anywhere. The staff is what makes this hotel well worth staying in. Thanks Jacob and co - you were great.
Staying for the second time and the Clarence met expectations for a £79 room, however if I was paying £110 or more would have gone to the Dylan - obvious missing items like bathrobes. Only had 1 face towels for 2 people, 3 coat hangers each, nobody to meet myself and pregnant fiancee at door to help with bags, all things that i`d expect for 5 star but for £79 perhaps that is what you pay for?
The Clarence came about for us after a web search for a Dublin Hotel, an adventure that turned into a very positive and satisfying experience. The facilities are comfortable, it would be lovely to have a jug and a cup in the room though to make a cup of tea/coffee in the middle of the night! Otherwise I can only make positive comment, the staff were courteous and helpful at all times, the quality of the rooms was excellent and the food was superb. I would definitely recommend the Clarence and certainly stay here on my next visit to Dublin.
This hotel is in a good location. The staff where very polite and helpful but I found it to be a little blank. The lounge is a bit like a waiting room. The restaurant was closed for suppers when we were staying there and our room was quite small and looked out onto the rear of a building only a few feet away across what looked like a loading bay. The TV was so quiet we had to get an engineer to come and tweek it louder and he appeared in only a couple of minutes and sorted the problem out so top marks there! Best points definitely location, cleanliness and staff.
We have just returned from Dublin after a wonderful stay at the Clarence. Well from the minute we stepped through the door the service was absolutely faultless. Our suite was beautiful. Very large and comfortable and we just didn`t want to leave and see Dublin. Could not fault it in anyway.
The Clarence is a really great hotel. I would recommend it to anyone. We had 2 rooms. We have 3 boys. In some hotels of this standard; there can be a snooty attitude. Not at the Clarence, Very very friendly. The rooms were very comfortable. The location in Temple Bar couldnt be better. We will visit Dublin again. We would only stay at the Clarence. A brilliant hotel !!
We stayed for one night and quite frankly that was enough. When you consider the price of the room you`d expect to have coffee/ tea facilities in your room.!! Our room faced the road running from Temple Bar and was very noisy until 4 am.The windows were closed of and this had no impact. Although i would say the location is superb but i think you could get much better value for money. We have stayed in hotels much better than this and for a fraction of the price.
Good housekeeping standards, nice room, good breakfast- would recommed it highly to everyone I know. - We will be going back again.
Very pleased with this hotel it was a dream
WE LOVED THE HOTEL,STAFF CAN`T BE FAULTED DIDN`T HAVE TO LIFT A FINGER SERVICE EXELLENT WILL STAY THIER AGAIN AND RECOMMEND TO ALL OUR FRIENDS
The room was very hot during the night and could not be altered even with the windows open. Also there were no tea making facilities in the room, which was disappointing for a hotel of this standard
It was our 10th Wedding Anniversary, and they gave us champagne on arrival - the accomadations was fantastic the breakfast and service was superb - oh and don`t forget the location right in the middle of Temple Bar - PERFECT
Lovely place to stay...... Staff were the best by far - will def stay again
Hotel was fine, room was clean but for reasons i am not sure about, the central heating was on full bore all night in the middle of summer, it was like living in an oven. Fixed shower rose was faulty, and manual shower handle was also faulty. That aside, everything else in the room was fine. The room we were in 212, backed onto the temple bar, and believe me, if you are a light sleeper, give this side of the hotel a miss, the bars are on the go until 5am with noise to match. On the other hand, if you want all night parties every night, this is the place for you. Dublin is a great place to visit, and overall the Clarence is well worth staying in, i would certainly recommend it, so give it a go.
I admit we are U2 fans & we wanted a luxury accomodation & were wiling to pay, what a huge dissapointment ,it is advertised as 5star & can not understand WHY.It Looked like a church, very cold & miserable,no pictures up,No telly in lounge,It was more like a office, food was nice ,staff were aswell, but the outlay, decor, room was very small, nothing deluxe about it.I would never return to this hotel,It was good location, but there was better 3 star hotels for less money & more luxurious than this one ,totally over-rated,the Travel lodge was more luxurious than this..BIG STYLE ..22 euros for the internet for 24 hrs .I pay less for a month back at home.DONT PAY ,there are plenty of internet cafes near buy,to pick up e-mail etc. What a rip off U2 want to be ashamed......
Our stay in the Clarence was briiliant, from the valet parking on arrival, which was excellent value, to the friendly, accomodating staff, nothing was too much bother from them, for anyone wanting to spoil themselves...........this is THE place to stay
The Clarence is simply the best hotel I have ever stayed in. Everything was perfect. I will definitely be returning, soon I hope!
The staff were exceptional in their attitude and overall attention to our needs. However, the hotel looked very tired and run down and our bedroom, although very clean, was at the back of the hotel and we didnt get much sleep becuase of noise from revellers and different traffic any night. Generally speaking we felt that we didnt get vlaue for money at all if you consider that we could have checked in to the luxurious Shelbourne for another 20 euros per night.
Stayed one noght at the Clarence. Very attentive staff. Nice rooms. great location. Superb breakfast. Highly recommended.
The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. We took our ten month old son with us and facilities were great. Bottle warmer, steriliser and cot were in our room when we arrived. Room service collected his meals, heated and returned to us and provoded a high chair to use in our room. The room itself was small and had no air conditioning. It could have done with a new tub, as the enamel was wearing. We complained about this and asked to be moved. They offered us a smaller room with AC which we decided against. We were treated to a complimentary bottle of champagne which was a nice touch. Breakfast was excellent. Aside from the very friendly staff, the hotel felt more like a 4* and is overpriced, Great location though!
