Sold on line as a luxury 5* hotel who do not want to be named because of the low price offered on line! this is a joke as the room was sub-standard, very small and poky with a view to the rear although Green xxxxx to the front aspect. The hotel was not full so why not place your guests in a decent room on the off chance that they may return. No such luck and the last time I book a hotel on line unless I know the hotel and the type of room I am getting
The room ( no. 306) that we stayed in was so tiny that the heater was blocked by a sofa and the desk was blocked by another desk. Though the location of the hotel is very good and the restaurant is also good; it is definitely not worthwhile staying here.
In order to provide a good flow of hot water to the shower I opened up the hot tap more than I had when running water into the bath without realising that when switching back to release the water into the bath the temperature was so hot it was scalding. This situation needs urgent review.
Good room. Comfortable bed. Great breakfast. Good service. Classy old time style
General hotel building very nice, staff very friendly and helpfull. Into the room bit of a let down standard hotel room nothing fancy not 5*. Sheets lovely and white lining, fresh towels very clean but lets face it when you go 5* you expect that little bit more a bit of sxxxxxle, carpet would need replaced or shampooed. Bathroom OK clean again just not 5*. Took a hidden gem deal so knew I wasn`t heading for the penthouse but thought I`d at least get the whaow factor. Location amazing just across the xxxxx for Lizzy and the family walking distants to most places and tube about 500 yards away. Tesco`s express not to far either so don`t worry about the expencive drink prices. It`s hard to bet the tins of Carlsberg!!! Lovely little eating spot just round the corner Prezo on Down Street lovley grub and not to hard to pay went twice. Tasty grub in the Citrus restruant as well. To give it to you in laymans terms I`ve seen worse and stayed in better.
We had a slight hiccup when the third bed was not present or made up on arrival but the hotel soon sorted this out. All staff were very polite and courteous. We were upgraded to a full english breakfast for all three of us (instead of continental for just two of us) without even asking! The breakfast was delicious and the choice was great. The beds were comfortable as was the bath, In all a very enjoyable stay.
staff were pleasant enough but there are better 5 star`s in London
the reception and bar area reflect the standard of the hotel. However the bedroom is ok but the bathroom was that of a 2 to 3 star hotel must be a least 30 years old, for the price you could get a much better hotel in london.
First room no bigger than a single and the bed mattress collapsed in the middle. To get both occupants in the bed one had to climb over the other and when a complaint was made the reception said they would send someone to check as if we were not believed.
The hotel is obviously renowned for it`s grandeur look and the central atrium is suitably stylish. Our room had a similar styling but did give the appearance of looking dated. However, this did not affect the enjoyment of our stay too much.Nothing was too much trouble for the hotel staff, our extra bed was not in the room. It arrived before I could return from the reception area. A special mention goes to the room service, 3 meals were ordered and arrived inside 20 minutes and was reasonably priced. It was a good 30% cheaper than a similar meal at the Disneyland Hotel in Paris.Overall a very pleasant stay in a hotel that was situated perfectly for both the West End and Covent Garden in one direction and Knightsbridge in the other (If you wish to shop like my wife). If you like your accommodation a bit more modern, you may wish to think again though.
The hotel was clean and the room pleasant although the bathroom was a little cramped. Our only quibble was that there were no tea making facilities in the room - these could be provided by room service. The staff were friendly and helpful and service in the restaurant was reasonably efficient.
Having read reviews on other sites I was worried about what our stay would be like, having read some bad reviews it was better than expected. Biggest disappointment, no tea & coffee making facilites in the room, we took our own kettle. Would rate it more as a 3/4 star hotel generally.
Poor room quality
The hotel itself is a great hotel, all the trmmings in the grand main rooms you would come to expect. The room we had was not as large as i would have expected, the bathroom was a real disappointed, with a dated beige shower curtain I am sure my grandmother has.It was great to stay there and the level of service was exceptional but the room we thought cold have been significantly better.
Really nice hotel, conveniently situated. View from Room 231 is not good overlooking dirty buildings. I do not think that the rooms look 5* and being in the tourism industry would question the person doing ratings. Have good facilities though. Staff very friendly. Breakfast was good although service was very slow (I had to ask 3 times for butter and other items). My breakfast (poached egg) came after my husband was finished his. Room was clean and we did have a king bed. Because it was our aniversary reception sent a complimentary bottle of wine which was very appreciated. I booked through Hidden Gems and paid more for my room than the hotel special offers - one to watch for.
The hotel is trading on its former glory but can not be classed as 5* due to the poor standard of the rooms and bathrooms. The staff are excellent and most helpful but the quality of the overall offer did not match our expectatipons . The Classic Room we booked was very poor in terms of size and facilities to such a position that we decided to upgrade to an Executive Room. We then had occassion to complain on 4 ocassions regarding facilities such a s soap, dressing gowns, slippers, water, shampoo etc all missing from our room. Not a HIDDEN GEM as promised will not return until its refurbished!!
Too warm in the room, even with all windows open and air con on, in NOVEMBER! breakfast was good.beds comfy- if you like a warm bedroom your in for a winner. Shower old fashioned!
Only downside was the bathroom, very small and not up to the standard of the rest of hotel, no bathrobes either. The bedroom was lovely and very comfortable. Staff very friendly and helpful, Breakfast was nice, loads to choose from and I would recommended the Citrus restaurant, lovely food and service.
My husband, daughter and I stayed at the xxxxx xxxxx xxxxx hotel on the 29th October 2008. We were very disappointed with our room which was in desperate need of a makeover!! There were no tea or coffee making facilities. The third bed was not made up until a request was put in. Only two sets of towels were supplied. There were not enough complimentary toiletries for three people. Then to top it all a maid knocked on the door at 8am to see when we would be checking out!! The good thing about this hotel is its location. It is only five minutes to Green xxxxx Tube station.
Our booking was for va family room We were fobbed off with a tight double and had to pay an upgrade fee. Tere was alsom a fire and evacuation, the alarm was not easily audible in our room
Hotel was very dark with no natural light, making the hotel look shabby. The rooms were very small and you practically trip over the bed when entering the room. The bathroom was awful, dated, mouldy and needs to be renovated. When people in other rooms start having showers in the morning the pipes whistled and creeked waking us up at 6am!! One good thing was the comfortable bed. Service in the bar area was also very slow even when not busy.
If you assume that the name xxxxx will mean an anonymous, modern, slab sided hotel identical with thousands of others around the world then you will be disappointed . If, on the other hand, you enjoy a quirky and characterful older building with panelled public areas, bedrooms of varying sizes but with fantastic beds, gloriously old fashioned bathrooms with rainforest showers and breakfasts of a quality to rival the ritz then you will probably love this hotel. Of course, the main entrance is now at the back because of difficult traffic xxxxxs at the front, of course there is no tea tray because good hotels provide room service and above all, if you book a cheap deal you can`t expect the best rooms. But, whatever you pay this is really good value for central london.
We upgraded on arrival and were still disappointed definitely would not stay there again
I always stay in 4 or 5 star hotels and expected a much higher standard of bathroom. The air conditioning unit was also prohibitively noisy and affected the quality of our sleep. The breakfast was very good and the bar was very impressive.
check in was delayed which caused us to be late for an appointment we had the room had seen better days old looking needs up dated and it was small expected more from a so called 5* hotel and i had to call up to get the bed changed from twin beds to a king which is what i had booked i would not recomend this hotel nor will i stay in it again
Whilst I do not want to judge the hotel too harshly, some very basic elements with the service provided in the restaurant at breakfast caused me such bitter dissapointment as to begin to find further fault. Specifically, service at breakfast was slow, sloppy and inattentive, more akin to the service that you would expect in a service station and certainly not what should be found in a 5 star hotel in the centre of London. The breakfast restaurant was clearly an elegant and luxurious dining area at one time, but standards have been allowed to slip. Closer inspection revealed that the fixtures and fittings were grubby and the windows filthy - I do not expect to be forced to stare at pigeon excrement whilst sat waiting too long for my breakfast. Sorry, but very dissapointing.
